FREDERICK THE GREAT DETECTIVE

“Emil and the Detectives” would still be Frederick’s favourite book even if the author Erich Kästner was not by chance his neighbour and friend. Since he read it, he has been dreaming of becoming a detective himself. Together with his friends Albert and Viktoria – who is so smart that she is only called “Doctor” – he is already helping the Berlin police to track down lost items. His older brother Rolf, on the other hand, joins the Nazis and enthusiastically takes part in the 1933 book-burning. Friedrich has to watch as Kästner’s books are also burned there. And soon afterwards the police even set the children to spy on the writer! When there is also a murder, Friedrich suddenly realizes that the time for detective games is over forever.
